EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR therapy is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To learn more, visit www.emdria.org.
EMDR therapy has been declared an effective form of trauma treatment by a wide range of organizations. In the United States, these include the American Psychiatric Association, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the World Health Organization.
Therapy
Our therapists use an eclectic approach by incorporating traditional psychotherapeutic modalities— psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and narrative - with mindfulness-based practices, somatic (body-based) therapies and EMDR (trauma therapy). We specialize in treating trauma, co-dependency, grief, depression, anxiety, parenting and relationship challenges.
Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a unique program that helps calm and regulate your nervous system using music through over-the-ear headphones. It's designed to make you feel more present and connected, and it's been shown to help people dealing with trauma, anxiety, stress, ADHD, sensory processing issues, brain fog, digestive problems, and emotional regulation.
SSP works by using specially filtered music as a gentle, non-invasive way to stimulate the vagus nerve. This helps your nervous system get better at supporting connection, collaboration, and resilience. The process involves listening to this special music through headphones and participating in several remote sessions to help your nervous system reset.
Somatic Coaching
Somatic coaching emphasizes the intrinsic connection between the mind and body. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which primarily focuses on cognitive and emotional processes from the neck up, somatic work involves the entire body in the healing process.
In somatic coaching, it is believed that trauma and chronic negative emotions can become trapped within the body, influencing both mental health and physical well-being. This form of therapy aims to address and release these bodily-held tensions to promote overall healing and wellness.
EMDR Intensives
Half-Day
This 3 hr session is designed for the TBM member who wants to work on one-two significant blocks. Typically in EMDR you want to target your “first or worst” trauma block. When targeting a key core memory it allows for the greatest amount of healing and unblocking for whatever manifestation you are calling in.
Full-Day
This 6 hr session is created for the TBM member who is wanting to deep dive into unblocking their foundational trauma memories which have created their negative core narrative. Just as EMDR is a very different approach to psychotherapy, an intensive is a very different way to approach EMDR treatment. I would approach this intensive as if you are taking an intentional sacred pause… almost like a “psychological surgery” day. Our goal would be to target as many core trauma wounds as possible to give each client a “story clearing.” Because the “rewiring” and truly healing effects of EMDR, an Intensive can work in ways that are not possible utilizing standard talk-therapy techniques in a very short amount of time. This work is intense, but so is the healing!
Details on Intensives
After filling out a submission form, Janelle will call you for a consultation to see if you are a good candidate for an intensive. Generally, an intensive is well suited for someone who is not in crisis and is at a good place in their life to do intensive work (has emotional resources). I’m happy to consult with you if you are unsure if this offering is right for you at this time. Also, if you are working with a counselor you love, you are still welcome to do an intensive to supplement and support your current therapeutic or coaching work.
My practice is located in San Diego, California, but that doesn’t mean you have to be! Clients can travel from anywhere in the world to do an intensive and then return to their daily lives - wherever that may be. If you will be traveling here for an Intensive, I can provide you with more detailed information regarding hotels, transportation in San Diego, the airport etc…
